Student Device Loan Agreement
Terms of use for school-provided devices
PS 139 will provide one device and charger per student upon entry to the NYC school system ONLY if a student does not have a device at home for use during remote learning. Beginning September 2025, Kindergarten devices will remain in the building unless needed for remote learning.
Important Policy Updates
Replacement devices are no longer available for physically damaged (cracked screen, port damage) or lost/stolen devices as of March 1, 2024
In-school devices are available throughout the day but not assigned to specific children
Chargers must be replaced at personal expense
Screen protectors are strongly suggested for iPads
Broken devices must be returned to PS 139 since they are DOE property
Care & Maintenance
- • Keep device in a safe place when not in use
- • Report damage or theft within one school day
- • Do not modify physical structure
- • Carry carefully at all times
Personal Safety
- • Never share personal information online
- • Recognize risks of online communication
- • Never meet online contacts in person
- • Report concerning content immediately
Cell Phone Policy

"Communication devices" includes cell phones, smartwatches, and similar technology. These devices are not permitted to be used during the instructional day and we ask that students not bring them to school. The school does not assume responsibility for them.
This Policy Does NOT Apply To:
Laptops, iPads, or Chromebooks provided for educational purposes. However, if any of these devices are used for communication outside the scope of classroom assignments, the school reserves the right to apply limits.
Consequences
First warning: Turn off device and place in backpack
Second warning: Parents will be notified
Repeated infractions: Conference with administration
Report Cards & Grading
Report cards are released through NYC DOE Student Accounts (NYCSA). Parents must sign in to view and download report cards.

Attendance Policy
Our Goal
Every child attending school every day — at least 95% of the school year.
Attendance Taking
School day begins: 8:00 AM
Arrival doors close: 8:10 AM
Students arriving after 8:10 are marked late
Early drop-off available: 7:30 AM
Excused Absences
Illness, injury, technology problems during snow days, family emergency, religious observation, pre-arranged appointments. Doctor's note may be required.
Communication
After 3 days of absence without contact, the Attendance Team will reach out. Please update your contact information on NYCSA.
Homework Policy
Homework policies reinforce and enrich skills taught in class, making students more independent and keeping families informed.
Daily Homework Time (approximate)
Reading: Part of everyday schedule. All students should read at home and complete the Reading Log.
Dress Code
P.S. 139 does not have a uniform policy. We depend on parents to send their children to school in appropriate clothing suitable for indoors and outdoors.
Guidelines
Sneakers recommended for daily wear and required on gym days
No flip-flops or open-back footwear for safety
No graphic T-shirts with profanity or inappropriate content
No beachwear, sleep pants, short shorts/skirts (must be within 3 inches of knee)
No tube tops, halter tops, spaghetti straps, or see-through tops
All outerwear must be stored in the closet or classroom
Assembly Attire: White tops with dark blue or black pants/skirts recommended for assemblies and Student of the Month presentations.
Code of Conduct
P.S. 139 promotes respect for diversity with many activities and programs that focus on preventing bias-based harassment, intimidation, and bullying. We use preventive approaches and reinforce positive behaviors through teachable moments.
